FAQs

What distance is required between the planes in the element?

At this stage, your element should practice in loose formation. As the plan develops, we may issue a spacing requirement for your specific element, but for the moment just practice the formation of Vic and Diamond!

What about flying with people that are newly endorsed formation pilots or not experienced?

All pilots will have strict currency requirements. This is regardless of whether they have flown formation for 30 years or 3 months. In truth, someone who hasn't flown formation for 30 years will be in almost the same boat as a newly minted formation pilot. There is a cut off date for being formation endorsed. If you don't make this cut, you can't fly in formation - however, there is the need for licensed pilot as a 'second set of eyes and ears' in the lead plane of each element, which represents an opportunity for these pilots.

Can I carry a passenger?

No. Only crew can be carried, although a current and qualified pilot with CTA and navigation endorsements can be carried to assist the pilot.

What about my Tiger Moth, can I fly it?

The planes need to fit into strict flight speed requirements. Tiger Moths or any other plane that sits outside the envelopes already described will not be able to join in. (As much as we love Tiger Moths, they just can't). However, if you have another plane that will fit, or can hire another plane, the problem is solved!)

What about my Mustang, can I fly it?

The planes need to fit into strict flight speed requirements. Aircraft that sit outside the envelopes already described will not be able to join in. However, why not fly another aircraft that is a better fit?
